People kept asking ONI to bring back the Kihannen fabric but as it is so often the case, it is often impossible to reproduce old fabrics. The original mill has been destroyed in a fire a few years ago, which means the cotton used for the KHN could not be spun anymore. So the master had to start from scratch to create a new, even better fabric. This is how the Kasuri denim was born, a fabric that takes the extreme unevenness of the KHN to the next level. This fabric is so uneven and slubby that the fabric almost looks patchy.
This crazy texture and resulting pattern gave the fabric it's name: Kasuri which stands for a tradtional Japanese weaving technique. The characteristic of kasuri is its unique, uneven patterns, which can give fabric a rustic or handcrafted appearance.
The Kasuri fabric clocks in at 17oz and will delight even the most seasoned of ONI collectors. To celebrate this special new fabric, ONI created a brand new selvedge ID in memory of the old Kihannen and to celebrate this brand new fabric.
