45TH ANNIVERSARY
HINODE AWA DENIM
"Japanese colors" were born from the rich emotions of the Japanese people and have been handed down from generation to generation. They have a deep, soothing taste that evokes warmth and familiarity.
For our 45th anniversary project, we have produced denim using these "Japanese colors," indigo and akane. The indigo yarn is dyed by hand using the "Awa Shoai Method," a traditional technique that Japan is proud of throughout the world.
In this technique, it is said that the true color of indigo appears after about 30 washes. With each repeated washing in water, the color that is not in harmony is washed away, and a deeper color is gradually developed.
The weft, on the other hand, is dyed with the vegetable dye "Akane". Akane dyeing has a long history in Japan, and there is a record that Himiko (a Japanese goddess of war) offered a textile dyed in Akane as a gift, and in the time of Prince Shotoku, it was a color that only noble people were allowed to wear. In the Meiji period (1868-1912), the red color of the Hinomaru (Japanese flag) adopted by the new government was also dyed with the vegetable dye "Akane. The deep indigo color produced by the "Awa Shoai Method" is interwoven with the plant-dyed Akane to produce a reddish indigo color.
This is one of the traditional Japanese colors known as "Futa-ai," which has been used since the Heian period (794-1185) for the clothing of the nobility and was forbidden to the general public. This denim, born from the traditional colors of Japan, combines elegance and grace, allowing you to fully enjoy the beautiful colors of Japan.
